Founded in 1567 by Pope Pius V (born Antonio Ghislieri) under the guidance of architect Pellegrino Pellegrini known as Tibaldi. Established initially as a male college, in 1967 it started accepting females. The building follows a four-sided plan with an internal court yard and has a very plain façade with a marble door bearing the Ghislieri coat of arms.
