Exploring the Area
The city of Pavia dates back to the Roman era under the name of Ticinum. The Longobards conquered the city in 572 and made it the capital of the Kingdom of Italy under the name of Papia.
This is the main centre of the Lomellina region and the oldest quarter of the city of Vigevano dates back to medieval times.
Originally called Iria, thanks to its geographical position, in the Roman era was an important commercial centre which Julius Caesar chose as a market.
